In Berlin, a gigantic aquarium that was housing 1,500 different species of tropical fish has broken.
A prominent Berlin hotel included a massive cylindrical aquarium. It ruptured early Friday morning, and Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey claimed all 1,500 fish in the tank were dead.
AquaDom was the world's biggest freestanding circular aquarium. The aquarium dominated the Radisson Collection Hotel's enormous atrium.
The AquaDom aquarium ruptured around 5:45 a.m. local time, spilling about 250,000 gallons of saline water and fish.
Berlin Police report two glass-shard injuries. They also deny a crime.
According to the building's owner, the AquaDom aquarium was entirely damaged, and the reason is yet unknown.
Radisson reports that the hotel is now closed due to the damage and that all guests are being moved.
Deutsche Welle reports that witnesses saw dead fish, destroyed furniture, and debris scattered across the hotel's atrium after the disaster.
The big aquarium and hotel are components of the DomAquaree complex, which is located next to the Berlin Cathedral.
